Course descriptions

A total of seven modules will provide the student with a firm foundation and knowledge in all of the museum professions. The modules are accompanied by learning materials conveyed through a variety of teaching methods and practical exercises – lectures, workshops/seminars, individual study, excursions to museums and heritage institutes, the use of an intranet system. A five-day international excursion is an important and integral part of the programme.

The programme is modular in structure and consists of an introductory module, a module in Project management and five core modules:

  • Collection Development
  • Audience Development
  • Product Development
  • Sustainable Development

Throughout the entire programme Theoretical Museology is the Leitmotiv and is the integrating element synthesising all of the modules.

On completion of these modules all students are required fulfil a museum internship. The final phase of the programme comprises a research project resulting in a written thesis.
